More Brits Playing Online Poker and Casino
The UK Gambling Commission have released new reports showing British citizens gambling online is on the rise. The survey conducted from January to June 2007 showed 8.6% of adult Brits play online poker and casino, last year that figure stood at 7.4%.
The National Lottery still ranked as the most popular form of Internet gambling with online poker a close second. Mobile phone gambling is also gathering momentum with 3% of adults admitting using their mobile phones to gamble at least once a month.
As expected, the increase in gambling activities was met with concern by anti-gambling campaigners. The Gambling Commission revealed gamblers were likely to be male and aged between 18 and 34.
Online poker is expected to attract mor eplayers in the UK with the first World Series of Poker Europe slated in September. Top poker players like Phil Hellmuth and Doyle Brunson has announced their commitment to play in the tournament.
While non-professional players can earn free seats playing in online satellite tournaments offered by poker sites.
